our program

FACES addresses this issue through the Home Visitation Program. The goal of the Home Visitation Program is to prevent the occurrence and reoccurrence of child abuse and neglect by strengthening the ability of parents to protect and care for their children.

Home Visitation Program

The Home Visitation Program provides services for the prevention and treatment of child abuse, neglect and family violence through:

  • therapeutic counseling
  • parenting education
  • case management
  • advocacy and support services

Visits are conducted weekly or bi-weekly (as the intensity of need diminishes). The length of service (which can range from three to eighteen months) is tailored to each family’s needs. Discharge decisions are mutually developed with the counselor and the family.

Professional Family Counselors:

  • Explore with parents how their childhood experiences may be impacting their ability to parent;
  • Teach them positive parenting styles and nurturing techniques;
  • Assist with stress management and coping skills;
  • Promote healthy bonding with their infant(s);
  • Assist with clear and realistic expectations of children based on understanding appropriate developmental stages.

The counselors also assist parents in accessing community health care and social services, housing opportunities, childcare, and other circles of support within their community.

Current research indicates that successful home-based programs address the unique problems in families, deliver a broad range of service, and are not time-limited. Th e FACES Home Visitation Program provides all of those components.

The Home Visitation Program is strength-based and the counselors maintain an open-minded, respectful and flexible attitude with all families, recognizing that various cultural characteristics and family values may influence child-rearing and other family practices.

FACES’ full time bilingual counselor serves the needs of monolingual Spanish-speaking families.
