How Can You Help?
You can play a role in your home, neighborhood, or community.
- SUPPORT children and parents in your neighborhood by getting to know your neighbors, welcoming new neighbors to community activities, offering to baby-sit, being kind and supportive of new parents, encouraging a parent to take a class or call for help, or becoming familiar with local community support.
- ACT by encouraging your local school district or faith community to sponsor classes and support programs for new parents, talking to others in the community about what needs to be and can be done, calling your local elected officials to help educate them about community needs and programs that support healthy, safe children and families.
- LEARN to recognize possible signs of abuse:
- Injuries that are frequent or cannot be explained
- Aggression towards adults, other children, or animals
- Dirty appearance, inadequate clothing, malnourished, or poor medical care
- Statements demonstrating unusual or inappropriate sexual knowledge
- Nervousness around adults or fear of going home
- Withdrawn behavior or changes in behavior
- VOLUNTEER at one of many organizations, across the state, which addresses child
